Suitable Weather Forecast For The Sydney Hobart Contenders

The weather forecast for the Sydney to Hobart for this year will offer something that all skippers of 100ft super maxis who are competing for the line honors excluding Christian Beck of Info Track. The leading yachts that have emerged from the harbor are going to be greeted with light 10-15 knots wind that is going to turn north-north-easterly. It will build 15-25 knot by the end of the first night as said by the Bureau of Meteorology.

5 super maxis are known to be in contention for the line in this present year, Info Track, Wild Oats XI, Comanche, Black Jack, and Scallywag. Mark Richards, the skipper of Wild Oats XI said that they have got a great new wardrobe for sailings which are perfectly suited for the weather forecast. Thus, they are obviously quite happy about this. However, he knows that things change and according to him, it is going to be a tough race. They are all looking forward to a challenge.

An Overview Of Junior National Sailing Event

The North Cape Yacht Club is all set to host the country’s top sailing competitions for young sailors in western Lake Erie this week. The Chubb U.S. National Championship 2018 for juniors is an outcome of multiple qualifying events that was open to over 1,000 yacht clubs in addition to 150 community programs across the country. In fact, this event is one of the oldest championships in the history of the US Sailing organization. There were preliminary competitions taking place all throughout the spring and in the first half of summers in many locations which included Seattle’s Leschi Marina, San Diego’s Mission Bay YC, Texas’s Austin Yacht Club, Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor Yacht Club, New York’s Rochester YC and Rhode Island’s Bristol Yacht Club.

In the beginning of July, Ian Riemal, the squad of North Cape YC along with his crew Zoe Hoctor from the Hoover Sailing Club achieved 1st position in a fleet of 21 boats to succeed in the Chubb competition. Gretchen Siek and Matthew Mrocca achieved 3rd place in the qualifying race. As far as this week goes, Hoctor and Riemal will compete against 19 pairs in 420 class.

Youth World Champions Prefer Olympics Practice To Title Defense

The 29er class World Youth Champions from Australia will not be there to defend their title.


The champions from Australia Annie Wilmot and Natasha Bryant have decided to forfeit their title defense and look for a place in the Australian sailing team that will be heading for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The youth champions said that they had mixed emotions forfeiting the 2017 Youth Sailing World Championship to be held in Sanya in China in December. They have a singular focus and goal and are want to take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and to represent Australia on the big stage. They are looking to compete in the 49erFX skiffs.

Natasha and Annie said that they had aspirations of defending their title at Sanya. But, when they thought about it hard and long, they felt that their ultimate aim and goal was to present their country at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. They fully understand that they need to put in a lot of effort, time and dedication to make it to the Australian sailing team for the forthcoming Olympics. (more…)

World Match In Marstrand Sweden

World match racing tour had a break in its schedule as the wind and water conditions turned inclement on July 3rd being held in the waters of Marstrand in Sweden, there were gales and breaking waves around the Marstrand arena which made the beginning of the competition difficult.


The organizers of the World Match Racing Tour stated that the wind was at 30 knots on average and there were gusts blowing at 40 knots. That made the sea state not ideal for sailing. The wind did drop in the afternoon, but the sea state was still not congenial for racing.

The crew stayed on the shores and appraised the situation. The America’s Cup has just gotten over and this is the year after the Olympic Games were held. Hence, the world class sailors who had come to participate in this Swedish island paradise were able to exchange notes and get to know each other better. (more…)

Tall Ship Program Of Sail Training

A new initiative has been started by Sail Training organization in Ireland.


The last week of January saw the organization holding their fifth annual prize event where they also announced a new initiative called Tall Ship program named The Voyage. The launch event was at the Mansion house located in Dublin. This new initiative will be held in the cities of Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin. This initiative also includes several water based events like International Mersey River Festival, The Dublin Port River Fest and Belfast Maritime Festival. These programs have been designed to be part of the initiative that will help celebrate several important cultural, historical and maritime activities in these regions. The three concerned city councils will have delegates at these events.

Sail Training is targeted towards helping young people to pick up sailing skills as well as those who are with disabilities or are financially disadvantaged to be able to pursue sailing has a skill or vocation. Such people will get opportunities to sail and travel under the voyages planned under Tall Ship initiative. This initiative has been operational for some time and has helped about 1200 people to go to sea. Last year the program funded about 300 trainees who were able to sail the sea and cross the waters of Europe. (more…)
